from INSIGHT OUT by Ellen Azorin

MUSIC

When I'm in a really foul mood,
I refuse to listen to music.
I particularly refuse to sing.
Or dance.
I'm no fool.
I know it will make me feel better.
And right then,
I want to feel lousy.
Music messes all that up.
Throws your anger all off balance.
Sneaks up on your stubborn spitefulness.
Seduces you out of your sulk.
Sucks the self pity right out of you.
So if you're feeling like the whole world stinks
and you want to keep it that way,
get yourself into a corner that's far away from music.
Given even the slightest opening,
music will completely ruin your rotten day.
